Judith Hendin, PhD: The Self Behind the Symptom

Judith Hendin, PhD, NMT, is the developer of Conscious Body & The Self Behind the Symptom, a direct, dramatic method for using the body as a path of healing and transformation.

Judith Hendin has served on the national staff of author and visionary Shakti Gawain and on the staff of Drs. Hal and Sidra Stone, originators of Voice Dialogue and the Psychology of Selves, a profound method for speaking with the many parts within us. A senior Voice Dialogue facilitator, Judith specializes in the energetics of these many parts and how they affect our bodies and every aspect of our lives. She has directed many Voice Dialogue and Conscious Body trainings around the United States and in Canada.

Judith received her B.A. in Cultural Anthropology from the University of Chicago, Phi Beta Kappa. She holds a doctorate in Somatic (Bodymind) Education from Summit University and is a nationally certified Somatic Therapist.

Judith is a certified Neuromuscular Therapist with extensive training in deep tissue, St. John, Healing Touch, Mitzvah, Rehabilitative Body Therapy, and psyche-soma methods.

As a professional choreographer-dancer, Judith Hendin performed with some of the world's leading companies, including Pilobolus. With the Danny Grossman Company of Toronto, Canada, she appeared in television specials and at most of the dance festivals in North America. To help other artists survive in New York City, Judith wrote a book, Welcome to New York, which was published by the Canada Council for the Arts. The recipient of several performance and choreographic grants, she has produced ballets based on sacred and humanistic themes. "I believe dance holds untapped, atomic power to change ourselves and the world," says Judith.

Holding citizenship in the United States and Canada, she has traveled around the world. A popular workshop presenter for three decades, Judith Hendin is an inspiring model for all who venture into creative, conscious living.

The work of many brilliant teachers contributed to the development of Conscious Body. In particular, when Conscious Body was birthing, Hal and Sidra Stone's immense Voice Dialogue and the Psychology of Selves made sense of what was emerging from bodies. In addition, the work of Judith Tamar Stone, creator of Body Dialogue, offered a way of speaking with the overall voice of the body.

Here are some proposed questions for Judith:
1. Judith, can you tell us about your academic background?

2. Were you always aware of your desire to help others through a chosen profession or did your desire develop over time?

3. I understand that you were mentored by Drs Hal and Sidra Stone, originators of Voice Dialogue and the Psychology of Selves, a profound method for speaking with the many parts within us. Can you tell us a little about Drs. Hal and Sidra Stone and this focus they co-created? Why were you drawn to this focus?

4. How did you expand upon this approach through your Conscious Body & The Self Behind the Symptom, which is your direct, dramatic method for using the body as a path of healing and transformation? What do you mean exactly, when you speak of energetics as a point of reference?

5. Could you give us an example showing how a particular voice points to a certain physical condition and how you surface that energy? Why is it necessary to listen for separate voices....is this an aspect of the human condition living in the illusion of separation?

6. How do you set up the interactions, client-to-practitioner, so that your process gets off to a good start and facilitates the objective?

7. Judith, can you explain to the audience what a Neuromuscular Therapist does and how this speciality corresponds to the technique you created to treat clients? How is intuition used throughout? Is your modality recognizable to mainstream psychology amongst your peers or yet considered a novel, refreshing approach, or an alternative method?

8. Is this good for one-on-one and/or group interaction?

9. Is your modality effective for all kinds of issues and conditions?

10. Can this process be used as a proactive tool? How so?

11. Judith, you are the recipient of several performance and choreographic grants, and that you produced ballets based on sacred and humanistic themes. You stated, "I believe dance holds untapped, atomic power to change ourselves and the world."  What do you mean by that?

12. Your site states that your private sessions, workshops, and trainings in Conscious Body and Voice Dialogue, are all leading edge approaches to consciousness and complementary medicine. Was your modality always considered complementary medicine?

13. Do you have scenarios to share showing how you work hand-in-hand with traditional medicine and what that outcome was?

14. I discovered you through researching the Omega Institute. Could you tell us a little about this agency and how you developed a relationship?

15. What do your consulting services consist of?

16. For whom are your training services...other professionals?

17. Have you any clients, which after your modality, could discontinue traditional meds and treatments that at best managed untreatable disease?

18. Do you feel you are fulfilling your highest purpose planetary role, Judith? How so --please explain.

19. Judith, please share with the audience a bit of wisdom, some measure that was useful in helping you find your path, stay on course, and benefit the world?
