"In this book, we explore the disappointments, losses and abandonment that we experience throughout our lives that prepare us for our greatest losses and that teach us to allow others to help us through these difficult life challenges. The goal of this book is to help you look at the grief that comes with the loss of a loved one through death or illness, the loss of relationships or jobs, all of which are part of life, but can impact our lives in devastating ways. We hope to give you a better understanding of grief --- what it is and how the emotion of grief affects your life and how you can move forward through the healing process.
"The death of a loved one is the greatest of losses, plunging a person into the depths of shock, numbness and disbelief as they begin their long journey through grief. Many other losses can create some of these same emotions, as we must work our way through the similar stages of grief.
"Few of us walk through life without having to experience grief at some point. Grief is a part of life, but seldom do we understand the complexities of the experience. What is grief? How do we handle all of the intense emotions that go along with it? Rarely are we prepared for the emotions that are created by death and grief, as we are thrust into the depths of emotion, beyond the boundaries of our everyday experiences. The loss of a loved one may evoke emotions you may have never felt before, or at least not to that extent. It can be very frightening and unnerving as we move through these unfamiliar emotions in a way that we feel we have no control over. "
