Origin of the Soul serves as a complement to Dr. Semkiw s prior books on reincarnation, Born Again and Return of the Revolutionaries, which focus on cases which demonstrate objective evidence of reincarnation. Independently researched reincarnation cases, including cases studied by the late Ian Stevenson, MD, at the University of Virginia, demonstrate that from lifetime to lifetime, individuals have the same facial features, personality traits and passions. On the other hand, these cases show that religion, nationality and ethnic affiliation can change from one incarnation to another.

This observation, which is dramatically illustrated in the Anne Frank/Barbro Karlen case, can help create a more peaceful world. Whereas Dr. Semkiw s prior books focus on objective evidence of reincarnation, Origin of the Soul deals with the purpose of reincarnation and the nature of the spiritual world.

Origin of the Soul and the Purpose for Reincarnation

By Walter Semkiw, MD

Topics covered in Origin of the Soul include when and how souls were created, how personality is determined, the nature of soul mates and soul dipoles, stages of human evolution, and the nature of time and space. Split incarnation, where one soul inhabits more than one body at a time, as well as ghosts, astrology, the Kabbalah and Enneagram are also addressed. Stages of initiation, identified in the life of Jesus, are reviewed.

Child prodigies are explained through reincarnation, as illustrated in cases involving Beethoven, Anne Frank, Gauguin, Picasso, Rubens and Oprah Winfrey. New reincarnation cases include those involving Hans Christian Andersen, Beethoven, Annie Besant, Francis Collins, Copernicus, Maneka Gandhi, Edvard Grieg, Jean Baptist Lamarck, Bruce Lipton, Louis Pasteur, Michelangelo, Napoleon, Adam Smith, Craig Venter and St. Teresa of Avila. Respected clairvoyants, who can access spiritual realms and beings, have contributed to Origin of the Soul. These include Echo Bodine, Judy Goodman, Wayne Peterson, Kevin Ryerson and Michael Tamura. In working together and through an organization called IISIS, contributors seek to establish a new science of spirituality.

A word from Walter:
I am a Board Certified Occupational Medicine physician and practice in San Francisco. I have served as the Assistant Chief of Occupational Medicine at a major medical center in San Francisco. Before that, I was a Medical Director for Unocal 76, a Fortune 500 company.

My undergraduate years were spent at the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana, where I majored in biology and graduated Phi Beta Kappa and with University Honors. After obtaining my medical degree at the University of Illinois, Chicago, I trained in psychiatry at the University of Colorado, Denver. I later entered an Occupational Medicine residency at the University of Illinois, Chicago, where I earned a Masters of Public Health (MPH) degree. In this program, I studied epidemiology and biostatistics, disciplines concerned with establishing scientific proofs. On my Occupational Medicine board examination, I scored in the 99th percentile.

I share my educational background because I want you to know that I am grounded in science. I believe in scientific method and I am a skeptic by nature.

My parents, Luba and Zenobius Semkiw, were immigrants from Ukraine, who were displaced during the Second World War. They came to the United States with nothing, yet found opportunity. My mother worked and supported my father while he went to medical school. Later on, my mother became a laboratory technician and my father became a career pathologist at the Veterans Administration. Continuing the medical tradition, my brother George became a pharmacist and my other brother, Leo, is a very successful orthopedic surgeon who trained at Stanford.

My father was a gifted pianist and he would play Chopin late into the night. I remember well these childhood nocturnal serenades. I wanted to play piano also, but I didn't have the talent. I am athletic, though, and I found that I could dance, which became a way to express music. I eventually married a beautiful and intelligent woman named Oksana. Though in time we parted, our early years were some of the happiest in my life. Many times, couples and other family members come back to life together from one incarnation to another. Indeed, I believe that Oksana was a close relative of mine in a lifetime past. Our story is described my book, Return of the Revolutionaries.
